Social Media... The Necessary Evil

It's all over our lives.
Facebook.
Twitter.
LinkedIn.
Reddit.
TikTok.
And so many more...
As much as the social media blitz is aimed at us every day (heck, even this podcast/blog probably counts), it's a necessary evil in your job hunt.
Personally, I am not a big fan of social media, but it's the reason this show has gone on to be the success it is today. Social media works. And as much as there are folks out there who are flash in the pan celebrities because of a viral post, the core of social media is so useful for you as a job poster.
While LinkedIn can at times be full of self promoting, drunk on their own Kool-aid fakers, it's also full of a tremendous amount of real people who are looking to build their businesses, find new connections, and most importantly, maybe even hire YOU.
On this show, we've had almost three whole episodes dedicated to LinkedIn, and there's a reason for that. It's the single most powerful tool you can use to help jumps tart your job hunt. (As much as I want to write "Other than this podcast" here, LinkedIn has me beat.)
The time we've spent on this resource this week and in weeks past back in episodes 7 and 32 has been substantial and we'll likely revisit it again in the future as the platform evolves.
The number one thing you need to take away from this show and this article this week is:
LinkedIn is 100% necessary to your job search today.
If your LinkedIn / Social Media Networking Game is WEAK,
your chances of finding a job are WEAK.
You might not like social media, but much like a hero having to use cursed sword to slay the demon lord in the fantasy novel, you have to make use of the tools you are given.
You may sacrifice a little of your time and perhaps some of your privacy to these social platforms, but here's the bottom line: You can't create the traction that social media creates on your own.
And if you're thinking "That's kid's crap, I don't need to be on there" or "I can't learn that,"
YES. YOU. CAN.
And more than anything you NEED TO.
Make the commitment to get on LinkedIn more than ever now;
your job hunt depends on it.
